The active Western Disturbance had resulted in fairly widespread rain and snowfall in the hills of North India during the last two days. This trend is likely to continue for another 24 hours, as meteorologists are predicting moderate to heavy rain in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh with chances of heavy to very heavy spells in parts of Uttarakhand today. Several places in Uttarakhand like Nainital, Mukteshwar, Almora may see a good amount of snowfall.
By tomorrow, this WD would move away and the weather will start clearing up from Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. But, the state of Uttarakhand might see on and off light to moderate showers and snow for some more time.
After a short gap, another such episode of rain and snow will begin around January 11, when a fresh Western Disturbance will approach the region. The upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh might see light activities on January 11 itself, while there are chances of good rain and snow in other hilly states between January 12 and 14.
Tourists planning to visit hills must take due precautions as there is a possibility of landslide and mudslide during this span.
This system is most likely to impact the northern plains as well in the form of rain and thundershowers and a change in the wind direction.
