Nail biting cold and heavy fog to persist in Uttar Pradesh

Intense cold in parts of Uttar Pradesh is showing no signs of easing up anytime soon as cold day condition and dense fog persist in the state.

According to media reports, more than 100 people have died due to biting cold since the beginning of December. Moreover, same number of trains has been delayed due to the dense fog today.

Due to the maximum temperatures below normal by 8°C- 10°C is several places, people are left to shiver and homeless left to hunt for night shelters. While Lucknow’s maximum temperature settled for 12.3°C, 9 degrees below normal, Bahraich’s maximum settled for 11°C, 12 degrees below normal on 29th December.

Several places in Uttar Pradesh have been observing significant drop in the maximum temperatures since last few days.

On December 26, the maximum dropped 8 degrees below normal to settle at 15.4°C in Gorakhpur.  Similarly, on December 27, the maximum settled at 16.9°C, which is 7 degrees below normal. Varanasi and Bareilly also recorded similar pattern where maximum temperature has been below normal by 8 – 10 degrees.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, minimum temperature will not drop significantly in the next couple of days but days will remain cold.
