Nagpur has been witnessing on and off Monsoon rains during the last few days. However, last 24 hours saw extremely heavy rains.
The average rainfall for the month of June for Nagpur is 168.5 mm. Till June 26, Nagpur had recorded 92.8 mm of rains. But now it has surpassed its monthly average rainfall as it had recorded heavy rains of 113 mm on June 27, making a new record of 205.8 mm rainfall.
As per Skymet weather, a trough was extending from West Rajasthan to the Bay of Bengal across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and a cyclonic circulation is also prevailing over Jharkhand and Odisha. Due to both these weather systems, it gave good rains over many areas of Vidarbha and adjoining areas of Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. These regions received moderate to heavy showers.

Now also, weather conditions are conducive for scattered light to moderate rains over Nagpur for the next 24-48 hours. Thereafter, intensity of rains will reduce significantly but scattered light rain will continue occasionally.

Other districts of Vidarbha region particularly Akola, Amravati, and Gondia may also receive good rains. Gradually this rain belt will shift towards the North over Madhya Pradesh due to the shifting of a trough further north.
Weather across the region is currently pleasant due to the heavy rains. The sultry hot weather which was prevailing has subsided.
