The state of Maharashtra had been witnessing on and off light rains from last few days. But extremely heavy rains that the state is famous for have remained absent. However, in the last 24 hours, the weather of Maharashtra took a U-turn and very good rains lashed the state giving some relief from the humid weather conditions.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation was persisting over the northern coast of Maharashtra. Due to this, heavy to very rains occurred over the north coastal districts of the state such as Mumbai, Thane, Mahabaleshwar, and Alibag. Another Cyclonic Circulation which was at the mid-level persisted over the Marathwada region. This weather system has given good rains over Vidarbha and adjoining Marathwada.
Places such as Parbhani, Washim, Yeotmal received moderate to heavy showers during the last 24 hours. As per Skymet Weather, it is anticipated that the intensity of rains will reduce once again over most parts of Maharashtra within the next 24 hours. However, another fresh spell of rain is expected to approach from the east and we expect commencement of rain over Vidarbha region around August 17.

By August 18 and 19, rain belt will cover many parts of the state. Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and North Konkan and Goa will receive light to moderate rains at many places and one or two places may also receive heavy rains during this period.
In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Thane received 77 mm of rain, Santacruz observatory in Mumbai recorded 54 mm of rain, Colaba 13 mm, Yeotmal 49 mm, Mahabaleshwar 25 mm, Alibag 21 mm, Washim 18 mm and Parbhani 14 mm of rain. In the same span of time, Vengurla, Kolhapur, Sangli, and Ahmednagar received light intensity rain.
