The pre-monsoon season (March 1- May 31) so far has been dry for Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.
These states are 100% rain deficit. However, Vidarbha observed light rains on March 2 and another spell is expected in Vidarbha on March 13. These rains during this period would be short and patchy in the region. The other parts of Maharashtra would be dry.
According to experts, light rains with one or two short intense spells would be a sight over Gondia, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Wardha and Nagpur. The reason for these rains will be a confluence zone from North Chhattisgarh till Vidarbha across East Madhya Pradesh. However, dry weather will prevail in Marathwada, Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra.
The minimums of Vidarbha and Marathwada would rise due to the presence of southeasterly moist and warm winds. Whereas, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa will witness northwesterly winds which will not allow day temperatures to rise much. Hence, both day and night temperatures would be near normal over these regions. This trend would continue for a week or so.
Mumbai too would witness dry weather for a week. However, minimums might drop marginally due to northwesterly winds. Thus, nights will be comfortable with warm and humid day. Maximums are expected to remain between 32°C-33°C.
