Active Monsoon would bring in heavy rains for Nagpur, Gondia, and Ratnagiri during the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, Pune and Mumbai rains would occur with the moderate-intensity only.
Good rains have been recorded in the state of Maharashtra during the last 24 hours. South Konkan received heavy rains while Vidarbha, North Konkan, and Goa, as well as Madhya Maharashtra, observed light to moderate rains. Likewise, light to moderate showers were recorded in Marathwada.
At present, a Cyclonic Circulation is over the Northeast Arabian Sea. Another Cyclonic Circulation is over Northeast Madhya Pradesh. This system would be moving northwestwards, thus bringing in light to moderate rains in many parts of Maharashtra during the next 24 to 36 hours.
The Vidarbha and South Konkan region stand a chance to experience heavy showers during the next 24 hours. Places like Nagpur, Gondia, and Ratnagiri may get drenched.
After 24 hours, the intensity of rain would decrease in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada but Vidarbha would continue to get moderate to heavy rains because of another Cyclonic Circulation over West Central Bay of Bengal, that would also be moving northwestwards towards the Vidarbha region.
Meanwhile, Pune and Mumbai rains would occur with moderate intensity for another 24 hours. Thereafter, the Monsoon rains would decrease in Pune but Mumbai may continue to receive moderate spells.
These Monsoon rains would benefit crops like Groundnut, Cotton, Jowar, Bajra, Maize, and Sugarcane.
Due to good amounts of rainfall, the Konkan region is a rain surplus by 33%, while Madhya Maharashtra by 53%. Despite some good showers, Vidarbha and Marathwada are rain deficient by 4% and 26% respectively, according to data available with Skymet between June 1 and August 31.
