Nagpur, Akola, Mumbai, Parbhani to get good Monsoon rains

Rain in Maharashtra increases, Monsoon inches closer

The Southwest Monsoon, which has become active along the coastline of Maharashtra, has led to a moderate to heavy downpour in Mumbai and Konkan area, while it remained active over many parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha. Places like Dahanu and Alibag recorded some heavy showers while other places like Nagpur, Chandrapur, Akola and Parbhani received moderate to heavy spells during the last 24 hours.

Most parts of Marathwada region have been receiving good rains but the intensity over this region is likely to reduce by July 20 while Vidarbha and adjoining areas will continue to receive some rainfall activities. Several parts of Konkan & Goa region including Mumbai will continue to settle with moderate to heavy showers along with very heavy spells for the next three to four days.

Since the span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Mahabaleshwar 121.6 mm of rainfall, Dahanu 90.5 mm, Nanded 81.5 mm, Alibag 79.4 mm, Bhira 74 mm, Mumbai 57.1 mm, Buldhana 54 mm, Thane and Jalgaon 42.2 mm, Harnai 35.7 mm, Parbhani 20.7 mm, Udgir 12.5 mm, Nashik 11.3 mm, Osmanabad 11.2 mm, Satara 6.5 mm, Pune 5.9 mm, Malegaon 5 mm, Ratnagiri 4.3 mm, Gondia 4.2 mm, Vengurla 3.8 mm, Akola 3.1 mm, Aurangabad 2.8 mm, Kolhapur 2.5 mm, Ahmednagar 1.6 mm, Sangli 1.4 mm, Nagpur 0.1 mm, Wardha and Amaravati 1 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, a development of low pressure area is seen over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha Coast. Due to this, Vidarbha and Marathwada will also receive moderate to heavy rains with one or two very heavy spells during the next three to four days. Scattered rains and thundershowers cannot be ruled out over Madhya Maharashtra region.

During the next 24 to 48 hours, Pune, Aurangabad, Kolhapur and Satara are likely to receive light rains. The weather conditions will remain conducive for rains to continue over entire Maharashtra. However, moderate to heavy spells cannot be ruled out over cities like Akola, Parbhani, Mumbai, Chandrapur and Nagpur.
