Unseasonal rain during the next 48 hours is going to put an end to prolonged dry and warm weather in Vidarbha. Scattered rain would commence in the region from today evening. Accompanied by thunderstorms and cloudy to partly cloudy sky, these activities are expected to continue until December 13.
The active Western Disturbance has now induced a Cyclonic Circulation over Northwest Rajasthan. From this system, a Trough is extending up to North Vidarbha across Madhya Pradesh. The combination would bring rain in Nagpur, Akola, Gondia and Amravati today and tomorrow.
Although, these systems would not have much impact on the temperatures, after their passage minimums are likely to drop by 2-3 degree Celcius, say around December 15.
The weather of Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada, on the other hand, will remain absolutely dry.
The meteorological division of Vidarbha and adjoining Marathwada receive rain in December due to formation of either Depression, Cyclone or Low-Pressure Area over the Bay of Bengal. These systems usually move in northwest direction towards Andhra Pradesh Coast, while their remnants manage to reach up to Vidarbha.
Or sometimes, active Western Disturbance induces a Cyclonic Circulation over Rajasthan, from which a Trough extends up to the central parts of the country. These systems have the potential to give light spells of rain in Vidarbha.
