Nagpur, Akola, Amravati to witness rain Valentines Day onward

February 13, 2019 5:21 PM |

Nagpur rains

Till date Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada are 100% rain deficient. Whereas, Vidarbha has been receiving intermittent rain and thundershower activities and is 18% rain deficit as of now and there is all probability of  Vidarbha receiving rain again.

Both, day and night temperatures of most parts of Maharashtra particularly Vidarbha, North Madhya Maharashtra and North Konkan and Goa have risen in past four to five days. Between February 9 and 10, the minimums were hovering around 7°C-8°C with maximums recording somewhere in the high 20s. But in the absence of a weather system, minimums have now risen by 8°C-10°C while maximums have increased by 7°C to settle in the mid 30s. For instance, on February 9, Mumbai recorded the night temperature at 11°C, while it settled at 19.6°C today,a huge jump of 9°C.

Similarly, on February 8, the day temperature in Mumbai was 24.2°C which rose to settle at 36.3°C on February 12.

According to experts, such a significant deviation in temperatures can be attributed to the change in wind pattern from easterlies to south-easterlies . Earlier, strong north-westerlies were responsible for drop in temperatures.

The weather of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan and Goa would remain dry. However, Vidarbha would be lucky in witnessing scattered rain and thundershower activities due to the formation of confluence zone over the Vidarbha and adjoining eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh. The humid south-easterly winds coming from Bay of Bengal will interact with cold and dry winds from northwest leading to formation of clouds and resulting in rain and thundershower activities.

Rain and thundershower at some places with strong gusty winds and isolated hail storm will be observed over Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondiya, Nagpur, Nanded, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal districts of Maharashtra, Vidarbha between 14th and 15th Feb 2019.

The rain deficiency in Vidarbha will certainly drop to some extent with this spell of rain.
