One of Peninsular India’s most famous tourist destinations, Mysuru received heavy rainfall on Thursday. This spell of rainfall could be attributed to the trough marked from Marathwada to South Tamil Nadu across interiors of Karnataka. It is extending up to 1.5 km above the mean sea level with an embedded upper air cyclonic circulation lying over North Interior Karnataka and adjoining Marathwada region.
In fact, Southwest Monsoon has been active over the interiors of Karnataka over the last couple of days. In a span of 24 hours from 8.30 on Thursday, Mysuru has received 78 mm of rainfall. This is unusual because the monthly average rainfall forMysuruis 84.8 mm.
During this time period Bangalore has also seen heavy spells of rainfall. In fact, the Bangalore Airport recorded a whopping 71 mm of rain.

The present spell of rainfall witnessed in Mysuru is the second highest 24-hours rainy spell in the month of July, during last 10 years. The highest 24-hours rainfall in last 10 years was recorded in July 1, 2014 when the city received 84 mm.
So far in July this year Mysuru has received 131.9 mm, leaving the monthly mean far behind. Mysuru lies in the subdivision of South Interior Karnataka. This region has received normal rains so far this Monsoon.
