Chennai floods have not only ravaged the capital city, but several other cities in Tamil Nadu have been severely affected by the never ending torrential rains. Chennai rains broke a century old rainfall record in just 24 hours.
More than 250 people were killed and thousands were left homeless as heavy rains battered Tamil Nadu for almost a month. After sharing a 12 second video of the Chennai rains build-up, NASA’s IMERG (Integrated Multi-Satellite Retrievals for GPM) has come up with a single animation explaining the extent of destructive Chennai floods.
During the month of November, the state capital recorded 1218.6 mm rain. Not only this, on December 1, Chennai recorded a whopping 345 mm rain. So far, Chennai has received 542 mm rain in December against the monthly average of 191 mm.
