Last year, the minimum recorded for Mumbai was 16.4 degrees, which was highest during the last decade. Since last few days, the northeasterly dry and cold winds are blowing across most part of Maharashtra. Minimums dipped leading to cold wave conditions at many places over Vidarbha, and isolated pockets of Marathwada as well as Northern parts of Madhya Maharashtra. Now there will be a gradual increase in temperatures for the next 2 to 3 days. This rise in temperatures will be due to change in wind direction from Northeasterly to easterly and Southeasterly. Temperatures are expected to go down once again between December 28 and 30. During that time Mumbai may record the lowest minimum of December.
Monthly average minimum of December for Mumbai is 18.5 degrees, it drops to 17.3 degrees in the month of January. Therefore, the winter chill is expected during the first 10 days of January for Mumbai and suburbs.
