After battling extremely hot weather conditions last week, Mumbai has got some relief from scorching afternoons. According to Skymet Weather, mercury has dropped significantly by four degrees during the last 24 hours.
On Saturday, day maximums had reached 38.8°C, that was almost nine degrees above normal average temperature of 31.2°C. This amounted to heatwave like conditions for any coastal city, making it unbearable for the people.
These high temperatures can be attributed to uninterrupted flow of warm inlands winds over Mumbai.
However, as reiterated by Skymet Weather, temperatures started falling February 20 onwards. On Monday, maximum temperature settled at 34.6°C. Though it was a significant drop but it was still three degrees above normal.
All thanks to change in wind pattern. Now, the cold northwesterly winds from the northern plains have started reaching Mumbai. Further, we expect these temperatures to plunge further in the next 24 to 48 hours, making weather comfortable.
However, weathermen predict that this relief will be short lived. As by February 23, wind pattern will change once again and these cold winds will be replaced by relatively warmer northeasterly winds. This time also, mercury is expected to reach 37°C, leading to hot and humid weather.
