The threat of rains always looms large in Mumbai, around the 10-day-long vibrant festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Last year, the city was seized with intermittent rains and more so, at the start of celebrations, when very heavy rains struck the city and suburbs.  Even on the culmination day, 19Sep 2023, the rains dampened the spirit of joy and fervour. The weather god is likely to remain kind enough this year, and major interruptions are unlikely.

There is a depression marked over the Chhattisgarh region. The system will reach Central Madhya Pradesh in the next about 36 hours. However, it may not travel deep over parts of West Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan, which, otherwise becomes crucial for the Konkan Coast, including Mumbai. The proximity of the weather system over Madhya Pradesh may not bail out completely the Konkan Coast of rainy conditions but these are unlikely to be disturbing enough to become spoiler.

The festivities have already commenced and will conclude on 17th September, with the final immersion of the deity idol. The rains are likely to be patchy and short-lived between 10th and 13th September. The weather conditions will be dominated by a cloudy sky and moderate breeze. The showers could be moderate and a little more frequent on 14th and 15th September. Thereafter, the weather conditions will ease out, and the rains could be just fleeting and transitory. The weather conditions will improve significantly from mid-week onward, after 17th September.
