August 22, 2017 12:04 PM | Skymet Weather Team

After massive rains in the month of July, rain intensity had reduced over the city of dreams, Mumbai during the first 15 days of August. Barring heavy rains of 54 mm rain on August 14, Mumbaikars did not see any heavy rains during this time. However, the wait for a heavy spell of Monsoon showers did get over as the city once again witnessed heavy showers. On August 19 and 20, a few heavy spells of rain were witnessed by the residents which made the weather pleasant across the region.

However, some traffic problems were witnessed due to the hefty rains. Now, rainfall intensity has reduced significantly but moderate intensity rains have been occurring over the city and adjoining areas. These rains are attributed to the low-pressure area which was formed over Odisha and moved in a westerly direction and was stationed over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Maharashtra until yesterday.

Due to this weather system, the state of Maharashtra received widespread good rains. In the last 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Monday, Santacruz Observatory in Mumbai witnessed 14 mm of moderate rain. In the same span of time, Colaba Observatory witnessed 18 mm of rain. These rains have helped recover water in the dams which had almost dried up.

As per Skymet Weather, the off shore trough which is extending from Konkan to Kerala coast is likely to become weak. Also, the low pressure has moved towards the Kucth region. Hence it is anticipated that the rain activities will reduce in intensity once again. Mainly light showers with isolated moderate rain are expected to continue for the next two days. Monsoon showers will once again pick up pace From August 25 over Mumbai. The Ganesh Chaturthi festival is likely to start on a rainy note.
