The financial capital of the country, Mumbai is experiencing very warm and uneasy weather conditions for the last many days. The city has barely experienced any rainfall activity since September 24, except on September 28, when light rain to the tune of 4 mm was recorded.
Talking about the temperatures over Mumbai, at present the maximum temperatures in Mumbai are settling four to five degrees above normal. In fact, on Monday, Santacruz Observatory recorded 37.5˚C, which was also four notches above the mean.
According to weathermen, day maximums in coastal stations reaching 38˚C or 39˚C, is almost equivalent to heatwave like conditions. Along with high temperatures, it’s the high levels of humidity that makes the weather unbearable. This is what exactly Mumbai is witnessing at present.
Further also, we do not expect any relief from the ongoing sultry weather conditions over the maximum city for at least next one week. Afternoons would continue be extremely uncomfortable, while some relief would be seen during the evening time when the sea breeze sets in.
Although around October 18, a trough is likely to form over Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining Konkan & Goa, but we do not expect much relief in store. Due to this trough, scattered rain and thundershower activities may occur over South Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra but we do not expect any rains over Mumbai or its suburbs.
Moreover, an anti-cyclone, which is responsible for the present weather conditions over the city would also persist over Gujarat and adjoining region of Southwest Madhya Pradesh. Due to this weather system, dry and warm easterly and northeasterly winds would continue to blow over North Konkan including Mumbai.
Therefore, we can say that, due to these warm winds, weather conditions in Mumbai will remain hot, sunny and uneasy during the coming days.
