Mumbai surpasses monthly rainfall mean, light showers to continue

Mumbai rains have remained on the backseat for quite some time now. In fact, the city has witnessed only light rains for the past few days. So much so that after 22 July, the city has not recorded heavy rains.

The reason for reduced rains over these areas can be attributed to the weakening of the off shore trough persisting along the West Coast.

At present, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over Saurashtra and Kutch. However, the off shore trough which was running from South Gujarat to Coastal Karnataka has become insignificant. Nevertheless, moderate winds from Arabian Sea have been blowing over Coastal Maharashtra including Mumbai.

Due to this, light rain with one or two good spells of showers are possible until August 1. Thereafter, almost dry weather conditions with localized light rains with partly cloudy sky will take over the city of Mumbai.

Not only this, temperatures are expected to witness an increase by about one or two degrees resulting in slightly warm weather conditions.

During the entire month of July, the maximum city has been able to record 868.6 mm of rainfall against its monthly average of 799.7 mm. Thus, Mumbai has easily been able to surpass its monthly average rains easily.
