Mumbai surpasses 1000 mm mark in July, more rain to continue

Santacruz Observatory of Mumbai, which is the benchmark observatory, has already recorded 1141 mm of rain between July 1 and 22. The monthly average rainfall for July is 919.9 mm. Mumbai has recorded 204 mm of rain during the last 24 hours, which is also its first 24 hour rain over 200 mm this season. An east-west shear zone is passing in the vicinity of Mumbai. Low pressure area is over south Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh. Strong winds from the westerly direction blowing from the Arabian Sea we will continue to feed moisture over Konkan and Goa including Mumbai.

The intensity of rain may decrease over Mumbai and the suburbs. But moderate rain with isolated intense spells may continue for another 24 to 48 hours. Both day and night temperatures in Mumbai will remain slightly below normal during the next two-three days and near normal thereafter.

In fact, rain intensity over the entire Konkan and Goa will go down from July 25th. Scattered light to moderate rain with isolated heavy spells may occur over Vidarbha and Marathwada during the next 24 hours. We expect light scattered rain over interior Maharashtra from July 25th.
