Mumbai has witnessed moderate to heavy rains at many places during the last 24 hours. Rains started at around 4:30 pm yesterday evening and continued until 10 pm in the night. Another spell of rains was observed till midnight associated with moderate winds over the areas. Clouding continues to prevail over the city today as well.
During the last 24 hours, Alibag has recorded 94 mm rains, Santa Cruz 46 mm, Dahanu 41 mm and Colaba recorded 15 mm rains.
These rains can be closely associated with the Severe Cyclone Maha which at present, lies over East-central Arabian Sea above 550 km Southwest of Veraval. A Trough is extending from this system reaching up to Southwest Madhya Pradesh while passing through North coastal parts of Maharashtra. At present, southerly moderate winds are prevailing over Mumbai and adjoining coast.
Rainfall activities with one or two mainly light spells may occur over Mumbai today. Although, we expect the weather to improve by today evening. Dry weather will once again make a comeback over Mumbai on Sunday. Although, clouding will continue to prevail, and isolated thunderstorm activities cannot be ruled out in pockets. Temperatures are expected to rise further tomorrow while humid weather conditions will continue to prevail.
As Severe Cyclone Maha continues to move Northeastwards up to November 4, the weather will now improve over Mumbai and Konkan. However, there is a possibility that the system might recurve on November 5, bringing rains once again over the city around November 7 and 8.
