The city of Mumbai has seen rains lash big time with many areas during the first few days of July. Moreover, the city ofMumbai saw a whopping 375 mmof rainfall on the first day of July causing water logging, flight delays and many other hassles for the Mumbaikars.
There were rains after that also, mostly heavy on days with some days witnessing light to moderate showers only.
Yesterday morning once again saw thecity of Mumbaiobserving very heavy showers wherein108 mm of rainswere seen in just three hours in the first half. Moreover, in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Mumbai has recorded 130 mm of rainfall.
With this, the total for this month has come up to 808 mm which is just about 33 mm less than its monthly average July rains of 840.7 mm, and that too in just 9 days of the month.
Now, the city is likely to see some good spells of rain for another day or so, thereafter, around July 11, rains are expected to reduce with only light to moderate showers expected, around 20-30 mm.
Rainfall activity inMumbaiwill reduce in view of the formation of an Anti-Cyclone over the Arabian Sea, because of which, the cross equatorial flow will weaken, and winds will become northwesterly. This will result in lesser rains over the city, however, with just 33 mm to go, Mumbai will soon surpass its monthly mean.
If the last ten years record is taken into consideration, there have only been two occasions, the years 2012 and 2015 when the city has not been able to reach its July monthly mean. On the other hand, the city has seen four digit rains in July at least four times. This shows that July does not disappoint Mumbai in terms of rains, and is almost always surplus.
