Mumbai rains are on its peak, with extremely heavy Monsoon rains lashing the city since last 24 hours. The city finally clocked its first spell of three-digit rainfall on Friday to the tune of 235 mm.
This is the second highest rainfall recorded in Mumbai in a span of 24 hours in the last 10 years.
This three-digit rainfall is not unusual for Mumbai. In fact, June does see two-three spells of such torrential rainfall.
This is not all, more such showers are in offing. With this, the rainfall target which once looked impossible is just a day away. Mumbai is all set to surpass its monthly average rainfall of 493 mm, that too just in time.
So far, Mumbai has recorded 423 mm and the city now just needs 70 mm more, which doesn’t seem too much. Mumbai just has one day in hand for June to get over. However, with more heavy rains in store, we expect Mumbai to achieve the target with ease.
Till June 25, Mumbai had only seen 187 mm of rain. With Mumbai Monsoon arriving late by almost fortnight, this target at once looked impossible.
But this is the beauty of Mumbai rain. They just need to begin and then no target is unachievable. Mumbai is known for covering its monthly average in a span of 4-5 days.
