Mumbai City received very heavy rains during the last 24 hours. While Santa Cruz received a whopping 119 mm of rains, heavy rains were witnessed in Colaba as well to the tune of 66 mm. Many other parts of Mumbai and suburbs also recorded heavy to very heavy rains. We can make out that Monsoon Surge has once again activated over Mumbai and adjoining areas.
The reason for this is the presence of a Cyclonic Circulation still persisting over Gujarat region. An offshore Trough is running from South Gujarat to Kerala. Moreover, strong winds from westerly direction have enhanced the Monsoon surge over the region.
We expect these heavy rains to continue in many parts of Mumbai and suburbs. Waterlogging and difficulty in commuting might be witnessed over multiple areas today. Residents are advised to avoid outdoors and not to venture into low lying areas so as to escape the fury of waterlogged roads and traffic.
The rain activities will start reducing by tonight. Further decrease in rain activities is likely until early morning tomorrow. Although, we do not expect heavy showers tomorrow i.e. on September 9, however moderate spells with one or two intense spells cannot be ruled out. Waterlogging may pose some hazards tomorrow as well. However, as a relief there will not be much problem in commuting to offices and schools considering tomorrow is a working day.
