As reiterated by Skymet Weather, Mumbai rains have made an appearance over the city and have been going since the early morning hours non stop. There has not been any significant break in terms of showers and there isn’t likely to be during the rest of the day as well.
Sky conditions have been overcast, temperatures have reduced to quite an extent and the ongoing breeze is also cold. These showers have been attributed to a combination of weather systems, a Cyclonic circulation over Southeast Arabian Sea is persisting. A low pressure is likely to develop over East Central Arabian Sea anytime now and a trough is extending along the system.
While Mumbai rains will continue today with some heavy spells in parts, these showers will reduce by tomorrow afternoon, and weather will start clearing up until then. Even tomorrow morning will not see rains as continuous as today, which is why we can expect a big respite from these rains by tomorrow.
Mumbai is not used to these kinds of rains in the month of December. Invariably, in the past as well, there have bene several years when it hasn’t rained at all In December. Lats year however saw some light rains for a few days constantly, but it was just light in nature. Exception was the year 2017, when it rained heavily, with the city recorded 75.8 mm of rains in December, and received 53.8 mm on December 6. These rains are an all time record for both 24 hours and month wise for December.
