As reiterated by Skymet, scattered pre-Monsoon showers have been observed at many places in Mumbai and its suburbs in last 24 hours. Though, the Santacruz Observatory witnessed traces of rain, other places in the city received light to moderate pre-Monsoon showers during late night and early morning hours.
With the official onset date of Monsoon (June 10) around the corner, the pre-Monsoon activity is going to become more intense. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, from June 8 onwards continuous rain and thundershowers are expected in Mumbai and coastal Maharashtra for at least 3-4 days.
A low pressure area, which is currently over eastcentral Arabian Sea is expected to move in north-northwest direction and increase rainfall over coastal Karnataka and Maharashtra including Mumbai during this period.
According to weathermen at Skymet, the actual rainfall till June 15 will be more or less near the average rainfall. However, we have to wait and see how Monsoon progresses and behaves in the next half of June.
Meanwhile, the day temperatures in the city are recording close to 35°C. They are expected to come down and settle around 30°C in the next 2-3 days due to rains. The warm and sticky weather will give way to pleasant breezy conditions now.
