Mumbai rains to revive as Cyclone Ockhi to recurve towards Gujarat Coast

Mumbai rains have not shown up over the city for almost a month which is why Mumbai city has been whirling under dry and warm days. The daytime highs have peaked up and are already settling in the lower 30’s.

However, now the elongated dry spell which has been haunting the Mumbai city is all set to break with some light rains paving their way towards the city. The states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been throttled by heavy showers due to the cyclonic storm Ockhi which had developed in the waters of the Arabian Sea.

This weather system gained momentum rapidly and turned into a very severe cyclonic storm yesterday. At present, the system is over Lakshadweep and adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea, approx. 230 km west-northwest of Minicoy and 215 km south of Amini Divi.

This weather system will further intensify in another 24 hours and is expected to move in a west-northwest direction.

In the subsequent 48 hours, this weather system will weaken gradually and will recurve and move towards the Gujarat Coast. While its journey, it will unleash some rains over the North Coastal Maharashtra especially over the city of dreams, Mumbai.

Thus, Mumbai can brace for some light showers by the evening of December 4. Though the intensity of these rains will be light with isolated pockets witnessing some moderate showers. A drop-in temperature is also expected.
