If we survey the month of August in terms of Monsoon rains over the city of Mumbai, it was disappointing. On the other hand, June and July were still fruitful, specifically July as it ended up surpassing 1000 mm of rain.

As on August 28, the city of Mumbai has recorded 228.2 mm of rainfall as against the monthly average of 585.2 mm. Correspondingly; this is the second lowest rainfall aggregate in the last 10 years after 2015, when the city saw 153.9 mm of rain only.
Mumbai rains are mainly due to the offshore trough that extends along the West Coast, however this month it remained inactive. Another feature that is usually held accountable for Mumbai rains is significant weather system that travels from the Bay of Bengal all across Central India. However, during this month such weather systems remained absent.
The city of Mumbai saw good rainfall of about 25 mm on August 21. Nevertheless, it rained every day but it was either a drizzle or brief showers.
Even for the remaining days of the month, mainly light rain would go on over the city with few short moderate spells. Hence, August is assuredly ending at a lower than the normal rain.
Above all, Mumbai has been seeing good weather conditions, in the sense that cloudy skies, maximums in low 30s and minimums in mid-20s. It’s ethical to say that the typical Mumbai Monsoon shower is the only thing which is right now missing.
