Mumbai rains to remain light for another 48 hours

July 12, 2018 4:57 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Heavy Mumbai rains which begun during the weekend and only came to an end a day before had wreaked havoc over the city. So much so that the city had witnessed four consecutive days of three digit rainfall activity which had caused massive traffic chaos and waterlogging in many areas. Office goers were the worst sufferers as they remained stuck in traffic for hours together.

However, now, heavy Mumbai rains have now taken a backseat and Mumbai rains have become light in intensity since the past 48 hours. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Santa Cruz observatory recorded light rains to the tune of 5 mm. Rains were on the moderate side for Thane during the same time frame which recorded 15 mm of rainfall.

The reason for the reduction of rains over the city of Mumbai can be attributed to the shift in the off shore trough and now it is running from Coastal Karnataka up to Kerala region.

Thus, as per weathermen at Skymet, Mumbai rains will not see a revival for at least another two days and will remain on the lighter side. During the next 24 to 48 hours, light rainfall activity with one odd moderate spells of rains are expected over the city of Mumbai.

In fact, rains are expected to pick up pace around July 14 and 15 wherein the city will see moderate to heavy rains. Until then, residents will not see much of Mumbai rains coming their way.
