The most awaited time of the year for Mumbaikars is finally here. September 2 marked the commencement of the grand festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. As Mumbai gears up for the 10-day long festivities, Mumbai rains come in forefront that has the capacity to play spoilsport in the grand celebrations.
But this time, Mumbai rains have decided to spare the revelries. According to weathermen, only light to moderate rains would keep drenching the city during the next 10 days, barring one or two days. One or two intense spells of heavy rains may occur on September 6 and 7. Overall, we do not expect any major interruption in the festivities.
In fact, these showers would keep the weather pleasant, especially the evenings. Weather would remain cloudy during the morning and evenings. However, if not raining, afternoons would be warm and humid.
Maximum temperatures would continue to settle around 30 degree Celsius, or even lesser on the rainy days.
Mumbai has already recorded ample amount of rainfall and have even made some new rainfall records. The city has so far in the Monsoon season has witnessed 2586 mm of rains. With this, not only it has surpassed its seasonal rainfall but has also exceeded its annual rainfall limit as well.
Even after the delayed as well as a weak onset of Monsoon, Mumbai rains have given a thumping performance. Maximum contribution came in July, which covered most of the rainfall. August too started on the rainy note but rains receded thereafter.
Heavy rains confined to first few days of the month only, with only one spell of 3-digit rainfall which was on August 3 that saw 134 mm of rains. To be precise, there have been 25 days of trace, light rains or no rains. Septembr too began on the similar note. However, this has not made any impact on the rainfall surplus in Mumbai.
As on September 2, the seasonal rainfall surplus for Mumbai stands at 675%. Though we do not expect much rain in the coming days, but it would not have any bearing on the Mumbai rain surplus.
As we enter into the withdrawal month of Monsoon, the average rainfall for the city also decreases that stands at 341 mm.
