Mumbai rains to make a comeback, rainy week ahead

May 24, 2016 3:50 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Mumbai weather has not only remained hot but it has also been as dry as a bone since March 5. On this day, the city had recorded 10 mm of rainfall after which rain gods turned their backs on Mumbai keeping it parched.

However, as reiterated by Skymet Weather, parts of Mumbai did receive some light rain during late night hours on Sunday. While these rains were patchy in nature and only lasted for a few minutes, Mumbai rains are all set to return.

Mumbai is expected to start observing some weather activity during the next 24 hours. The intensity of these rains will be on the higher side after May 25. Until May 31, the maximum city will continue to receive on and off rains giving Mumbaikars the much needed relief from the prevailing weather conditions.

These rains will be attributed to the cyclonic circulation, which has formed over North-central Arabian Sea. Due to this, southwesterly winds from the sea will increase the moisture incursion over the Arabian Sea. Also, a feeble trough has developed along the West Coast which will further enhance the weather activity over Mumbai.

While continuous rains will lash Mumbai, temperatures will only witness a marginal drop. Also, rains will occur in patches and will not be of widespread nature. Before Monsoon hits the city, Mumbaikars can enjoy a preview of what is likely in the offing.
