Mumbai Rain

The heavy Monsoon rains that Mumbai city is infamous for has remained almost missing in the month of August. Though moderate showers of 22 mm and 18 mm were recorded early this week by both Santa Cruz and Colaba Observatories, seldom has the city witnessed heavy rains.

In fact, rains of light intensity were recorded by Mumbai in the last 24 hours as well. Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, The Santa Cruz Observatory witnessed 5 mm while the Colaba Observatory recorded 2 mm of rains.

However, now the rain intensity is expected to increase gradually over Mumbai and suburban districts of the city during the next 2-3 days. The trend of increased rain activity will continue over the capital of Maharashtra until this week.

As per Skymet Weather, the offshore trough will extend from Gujarat coast to North Konkan and will remain active. This active offshore trough along the West Coast will further activate the Monsoon Surge and will stay active over the Konkan & Goa Coast. Thus, Monsoon will once again become active over the state capital resulting in good rains.

The intensity of Monson over Mumbai can be made out of the fact that as against the monthly mean of 529.7 mm of rains, Mumbai has just recorded 51.9 mm of showers in the last 11 days. Although Mumbai has almost 15 days in hand to accomplish its monthly target, it is still a wait and a watch situation.
