Since the beginning of August, Mumbai has been waiting for some good rains that the capital of Maharashtra is famous for. Good rains have remained in the hiding for the past few days. Though the city did observe a good 54 mm of rains on August 14, Mumbai has mainly been witnessing light spells after that. In fact, the month of August has not remained much constructive in terms of Monsoon rains.
A somewhat similar rainy pattern has continued in the city in the last 24 hours as well. While the Santa Cruz observatory has recorded 0.6 mm of rains in the last 24 hours counting from 08:30 am as on Thursday, the rainfall amount was slightly better at Colaba with the observatory recording 6 mm.

The reason for these light spells and absence of good rains can be attributed to the absence of any significant weather system over the region. The weathermen at Skymet Weather predict similar weather conditions to prevail over Mumbai. Thus, the city of dreams will continue to witness light rains for another 24-48 hours.
However, the rain intensity is anticipated to increase over the state capital by August 21. The reason for the increase in rains will be associated with the westerly movement of the weather system that is currently seen over Odisha as a cyclonic circulation. The system is expected to intensify into a low pressure area soon. The temperature will remain to settle in lower 30’s and the weather will remain comfortable.
