After witnessing some heavy showers, Monsoon rains over Maharashtra have finally reduced. For the last two days, the state has been witnessing light rainy spells only.
In fact, the intensity and spread of these rains are more over the southern half of Konkan division, while the North Konkan region saw traces only. On the other hand, the remaining regions of the state mainly remained dry.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Vengurla recorded 5.2 mm of rains, Ratnagiri 2.4 mm, Matheran 2 mm, Mahabaleshwar 1.6 mm, Alibag 1.3 mm, Harnai 0.5 mm and Sangli 0.2 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, the offshore trough is extending from South Konkan to Kerala coast. Westerly winds are also prevailing over the region. The combination of both these weather systems gave light rains over the Konkan division.

As of now, the trough is expected to shift north, towards North Konkan region. In the wake of this, rains are likely to increase over parts of North Konkan region including Mumbai. In fact, moderate with isolated heavy showers are expected over Mumbai after 48 hours. Meanwhile, South Konkan would continue with moderate rains for the next two days. The remaining divisions of Maharashtra including cities like Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, and Akola may witness isolated rains.
At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:
Farmers in Konkan region are advised to continue with land preparation, nursery preparation for Paddy sowing. Farmers are also advised to continue planting of Mango and other plantation crops.
As rains would reduce over Marathwada, Vidarbha, North Maharashtra region, farmers are advised to avoid sowing of Kharif crops and postpone sowing of Kharif crops.
