Mumbai rains to increase further, heavy showers ahead

Mumbai rains have been kind enough and have been giving enough to Mumbaikars. In fact, it at times ended up getting a little too much for the residents of the capital city of Maharashtra. So much so that the beginning of the festivities of Ganesh Chaturthi were rainy enough with the city recording 90 mm of rains.

The last 24 hours were slightly less rainy for Mumbai, however, moderate with isolated heavy showers were seen over many parts. In fact, in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Colaba observatory recorded 43 mm of rains with Santa Cruz Observatory witnessing a good 31 mm of rainfall.

These showers have been attributed to the presence of the cyclonic circulation over Northeast Madhya Pradesh which is expected to move westwards furthermore having the potential of developing into a low-pressure area. Also, the off-shore trough has become quite active along the West Coast adding to the enhancement of rainfall activity.

Now, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, Mumbai is expected to witness an increase in Monsoon rains once again in the next 24 hours. In fact, moderate to heavy showers with a few isolated very heavy spells are expected to occur during the aforementioned time frame.

So far, Mumbai has been able to record 461 mm of rainfall against its monthly average rains of 529.7 mm. What looked like an impossible task, doesn’t seem too difficult now. With a few more days to go, Mumbai will easily be able to surpass its monthly rains in the coming days.
