Mumbai rains to increase after 48 hours

Mumbai rains had become heavy in the past few days. So much so that many areas for recording heavy showers with water logging over some parts as well.

However, these rains did take a back seat in the past 48 hours. In fact, the last 24 hours were all the worse for the city of Mumbai.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Colaba observatory witnessed a mere 7 mm of rain. Situation was even more disappointing at the Santa Cruz observatory where only traces of rains were witnessed.

The reduction in rainfall can be attributed to the shift of the low pressure area over Kutch region. Also, the off shore trough along the west coast has become feeble. Thus, heavy rainfall will remain far away from Mumbai for at least another 24 to 48 hours.

During the early  morning of today Mumbai did witness some light rainy spells even when the sun was shining bright. Light rainy spells are expected to continue over Mumbai during the next 24 hours as well. In fact, a few moderate spells may also occur over the city of Dreams.

After 48 hours, there may be an increase in the rainfall activity over Mumbai and its adjoining areas. Not only this, Ganesh Chaturthi which begins on August 25 will also start on a rainy note and moderate to heavy showers may make an appearance.
