Updated at 08:00 AM: Heavy showers have been recorded in the past day in Mumbai. In the last 21 hours, hefty showers of 337 mm have been recorded. However, the intensity of rains had reduced after 08:30 pm yesterday. Mumbai only witnessed 21 mm of moderate intensity rains from 08:30 pm yesterday till 5:30 am today. Rain intensity will reduce and heavy showers are not in forecast. Mainly moderate showers will occur over the city but heavy showers at a few places cannot be ruled out. Relief will be seen from afternoon onwards.
Updated at 06:00 PM: After heavy rain of 126 mm in the last six hours, Santacruz has recorded more hefty rains between 0.3:00 pm and 06.00 pm. Thus, in the past 9 hours, extremely rain of 298 mm of has been recorded.
Updated at 03:00 PM: After recording 86 mm in three hours, Santa Cruz has witnessed more showers between 11:30 am and 02:30 pm. Thus, in the past six hours, Santa Cruz has recorded a whopping 126 mm of rainfall.
As per weathermen at Skymet, these showers are expected to continue during the next 24 hours. Not only this, high tides are also possible during the evening hours. Fishermen are advised to exercise caution as the wind speed will be around 50-60 kmph during the tide.
Relief is expected after 24 hours, when massive rains will take a backseat and the city will witness a reduction in godzilla rains.
Update on 1:00 PM: Mumbai rains have been wreaking havoc over the city for the past two days. In fact, the last 24 hours have been terribly rainy for the city of Mumbai.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Santacruz observatory recorded 88 mm of rainfall wild Colaba received almost double the amount.
However, the showers have increased even further resulting in massive rains and chaos over the city that never sleeps.
In fact, in the past 3 hours from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Santa Cruz observatory has recorded a whopping 86 mm of rain just 2 mm short of what was recorded in 24 hours last day. Also, Dadar witnessed 115 mm of rain and Mahalaxmi 105 mm during the same time frame.
Traffic conditions continue to worsen as non-stop rains keep on lashing the capital city of Maharashtra. So much so that many areas have also been waterlogged and Mumbai local also continues to suffer.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, during the next 24 hours, Mumbai rains will continue to be hefty. The intensity will vary from heavy too very heavy. Three digit rains are surely on cards. However, some relief is likely after 24 hours as rains will witness some reduction.
Mumbai rains have been on a high for the past two to three days. Since the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi began, the saga of hefty Monsoon rains has begun. Not only this, the city did record heavy to very heavy rains before this as well.
The last 24 hours also had a similar tale to tell as both the observatories witnessed heavy rainfall activities. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, the Santa Cruz observatory recorded a whopping 88 mm of rainfall. Not only this, the Colaba observatory witnessed three digit rains to the tune of a whopping 152 mm.

These heavy rains can be attributed to the presence of an off-shore trough which is running along the West Coast. Not only this, a cyclonic circulation which was over Madhya Maharashtra adjoining Gujarat region.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy rains are expected to lash the city of Mumbai. Not only this, the capital city of Maharashtra may also witness a few very heavy spells during the next 24 hours.
The possibility of localised flooding and waterlogging in many areas is highly likely. Mumbaikars will be worst sufferers as traffic snarls will continue
