Mumbai rains to continue with reduced intensity

July 25, 2017 4:47 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Mumbai rains play an exceptional task in beautifying and glorifying the already beautiful city. On and off continuous rains have been giving Mumbaikars a reason to rejoice and enjoy the weather. Cloudy sky and on and off rainy traces have made the weather condition across the city of dreams pleasant.

Though the intensity of rains has declined considerably, the temperatures settling under 30°C from last many days have kept excessive humidity levels at bay. Mumbai recorded some rainy spells in the last 24 hours as well.

Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Mumbai’s Santa Cruz Observatory recorded 5 mm of rains. While within the similar time frame, Colaba Observatory witnessed 8.6 mm of rain. Somewhat similar weather condition is expected to prevail and Mumbai will keep on witnessing light traces of rains. But these rains will be patchy in nature and will be short lived.

As per Skymet Weather, the low-pressure area was over South Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat region. Moreover, this weather system is responsible for pulling away the moisture towards itself and thus resulting in reduced rainfall activity over the city of dreams. This is why heavy showers have not shown up in Mumbai from the last couple of days.

At present also, the offshore trough that is running along the West Coast has also become insignificant. Due to this, the Monsoon Surge has also weakened. In addition to this, the low-pressure area has also moved towards Central Rajasthan.

In the wake of all these weather systems, Mumbai rains will keep on occurring in a reduced intensity only for at least the next 3-4 days. However, the possibility of one or two odd moderate spells cannot be ruled out but very heavy showers are not foreseen in the near future.

So far, Mumbai has been able to record 872 mm of rainfall against its monthly average of 799.7 mm in July. With a handful of days left for July to end, it is worth watching if the city of dreams gets to record more good rains.
