Mumbai rains have been heavier since last weekend and looks like a similar situation is expected to persist in the coming days as well.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am yesterday, Santa Cruz in Mumbai recorded 70 mm of rains. However, it was the suburbs which recorded very heavy rains with 285 mm in Thane.

As per weathermen, more showers are expected to come up over Mumbai in the next 24 to 48 hours as well, remaining heavy in between.

So far, Mumbai has recorded 1881 mm of rains between June 1 and July 19, which is about 851 mm over and above the normal rains as of today. Looking at the forecast, more heavy showers are expected, courtesy a low pressure area which is expected to form over Bay of Bengal. Thus, the Monsoon current is expected to pick up again along the West Coast including Konkan and Goa region.

Thus, tomorrow as well, heavy showers may be seen. Moreover, on and off rainfall activity is likely to be seen through the week with intensity varying in nature. Mid week is expected to see heavier showers.

With these Mumbai rains, the city is not only likely to see record rains in July alone but it seems like rains will be enough to even cater for the remaining two monsoon months as well, which is a rare scenario.
