Mumbai rains to continue as Monsoon almost sets in

It seemed like the rain gods did not want the Mumbaikars to wait and so the fashion city of India has been witnessing on and off showers from past many days. To such an extent that temperatures have dipped, leading to pleasant weather conditions across Mumbai.

During the last 24 hours, the city has received light rain and thundershowers. Owing to this, we can say that those typical rains are still away from Mumbai. But soon the residents will cherish the most adored season of the year, when the city tends to record three digit rainfall.

During the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, the Santa Cruz Observatory recorded 1 mm of light rainfall while Colaba recorded 2 mm.

The adjoining areas of Coastal Maharashtra have recorded very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours, wherein Harnai has recorded 144 mm, while Ratnagiri has observed 103 mm.

The weather conditions are likely to remain favorable for more rain and thundershowers. As per Skymet Weather, the city will record light to moderate rainfall during the next 24 hours.

These rains can be attributed to the off-shore trough that is running along the West Coast from Konkan & Goa up to Kerala. Also, a cyclonic circulation is over North Madhya Maharashtra and Coastal Maharashtra. Under the influence of these weather systems, good spell of showers are likely to continue over the Maharashtra city during the next 24 to 48 hours.

So far, the city has recorded 78.9 mm of rain as compared to its monthly average rainfall of 523.1 mm. Therefore, with 21 days more to go, the state capital will manage to surpass this mark.
