Mumbai rains return with intense spells in suburbs, expect more showers today

Mumbai rains have returned with Santa Cruz Observatory recording 8 mm of rainfall in a span of 21 hours. Meanwhile, the suburbs of the city such as Badlapur, Kandivali and adjoining area managed to receive intense rain and thundershower activities.

The meteorologists at Skymet have predicted more showers for the dream city, mostly patchy in nature for another 24 to 48 hours. A major amount of rainfall would be recorded during the late afternoon, evening or night hours.

These showers would be short-lived and localised and would occur as a result of the development of convective clouds.

After two days of this rainy episode, the weather would start clearing up and gradually become dry.

During post Monsoon season, intensity and frequency of thunder activities increase. And intense rainfall activities (though for a short duration) become a regular sight. Waterlogging in the low lying areas is also common.

Since the commencement of post Monsoon season, Mumbai rains of varying intensity have been going on and there is more in the store for the dream city as predicted by our meteorologists. However, these showers would not be widespread and thus don’t hold the capacity to result in any major disruption.
