Mumbai rains have been on the higher side since quite a long time now. So much so that the city has seen six spells of three-digit rains. Moreover, the city has even seen over 200 mm of rains in one spell itself. In fact, so far in July, Mumbai has already recorded 1063.4 mm of rains. The monthly average rains for the city of Mumbai stands at 840.7 mm.

In the last 24 hours, Mumbai rains reduced to quite an extent, but heavy rains were seen over the commercial capital of the country. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Santa Cruz recorded 38 mm of rainfall while Colaba saw moderate rains to the tune of 16 mm.

Now, Mumbai rains are expected to reduce even further and that shows as no rainfall activity has been witnessed during the last nine hours. The city has remained dry and furthermore also rains are expected to remain light in nature only.

The reason for reduction of rains in Mumbai can be attributed to the westward shift of the cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat along with the weakening of the off-shore trough which runs along the West Coast.

Thus, heavy rains for Mumbai are not foreseen at least for the next 24 to 48 hours and resident will have to do with light showers only.
