Mumbai rains began with a bang in July after seeing heavy rains in the last two days of the month of June. June rainfall had remained deficient in the first three weeks as Monsoon also arrived 15 days late.

July since the beginning has been a rainy one wherein the last 24 hours also saw heavy rains to the tune of 78 mm at the Santa Cruz observatory while the Colaba observatory saw 54 mm of rainfall. So far, Mumbai has already recorded 606 mm of rains against its monthly average of 840.7 mm, which is almost three fourth of the July rainfall.

Now, for the next 3-4 days, i.e. until around July 10, rainfall of varied intensity will continue over the city of Mumbai. Rains will mostly be moderate in nature with a few pockets witnessing heavy showers as well. In fact, during these coming days, the city is expected to see rainfall around 40-50 mm in 24 hours, even exceeding further in other pockets.

Thereafter, starting July 11, due to an Anti Cyclone formation in the Arabian Sea, due to which the cross-equatorial flow will become weak. Northwesterly winds will blow over the region resulting in a reduction of rains. Thus, after July 11, Mumbai rains will be light to moderate in nature and rainfall amounting to 20-30 mm per day will only be seen.
