After recording moderate pre-Monsoon showers, Mumbai rains remained silent on Sunday despite the favourable weather conditions. However, Mumbai rains would not disappoint much and are all set to return today.
The maximum city is already witnessing cloudy sky conditions and rains may make an appearance during the latter half of the day.

According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the several weather systems prevailing over and around Coastal Maharashtra. A trough can be seen running along the West Coast along with a wind confluence zone over Coastal Maharashtra.
Besides this, a cyclonic circulation can be seen over East Madhya Pradesh and adjoining South Chhattisgarh. The system has been moving in west direction towards Maharashtra, which would further enhance the rains.
In the next few hours, rain and thundershowers of varying intensity along with strong winds to the tune of 40-60 kmph are likely over Mumbai and nearby areas.
Not only this, a fresh cyclonic circulation is seen brewing in Arabian Sea off the Konkan coast. The system is likely to appear significantly by May 5 and is likely to get more marked in subsequent 24 hours.
Thus, pre-Monsoon rains are likely to gain intensity by June 7. In fact, this system would be responsible for the onset of Monsoon in Mumbai, which is likely to take place around this weekend. It is during this time only when famous 3-digit Mumbai rains would make an appearance.

Mumbai rains have arrived and arrived with a bang. After recording moderate showers during the last 24 hours, we can expect another spell of Mumbai rains today. In fact, intensity of rains is likely to be more than Saturday.
According to Skymet Weather, sharp spell of rains and thundershowers are likely over the city during the latter half of the day. Lightning strikes, moderate winds and thunderstorm are also likely to accompany these showers.
The lightning and thunderstorm build up can already be seen along the West Coast till South Konkan and are likely to reach North Coastal Maharashtra very soon. As reiterated by Skymet Weather, these showers can be attributed to the trough running along the West Coast and wind confluence zone over Coastal Maharashtra.

Monsoon 2018 is knocking the door and is likely to make onset soon by this weekend, The ongoing showers can be considered as precursor to Monsoon rains. Mumbaikars would see famous three-digit Mumbai rains making an appearance just before the onset i.e. around June 8-9.

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers have been lashing Mumbai since two hours. Rain bearing clouds had engulfed the city by late evening and rains followed soon around 8 pm.
In fact, rains have not shown any sign of settling down and weathermen are of the view that rains and thundershowers of varying intensity are likely to continue for another 2-3 hours.

Taking a look at the Mumbai rains amounts between 8 and 9 PM: Wadala saw 8 mm of rain, Dharavi 5 mm, Kurla 34 mm, L Ward 26 mm, Chembur 22 mm, Chincholi 39 mm, Kandivali 34 mm, Kandivali Workshop 22 mm, Goregaon 23 mm, P Thakrey 25 mm, Dahisar Naka 20 mm, BKC 23 mm, Andheri 22 mm, and Dindoshi 26 mm.
Water logging complaints have also been reported in areas of Mumbai including Bhagatsingh Nagar, New Link Road, Goregaon (W), Anand Nagar Jn, Kandivali (W), N G Acharya Road, and Chembur.
Moreover, as per media reports, three deaths have been reported in different parts of the city due to Mumbai rains.
These rains have finally ushered in the much awaited pre Monsoon season over the entertainment capital. Until now, Mumbai had been battling dry and humid conditions, while other parts of the country enjoyed good amount of pre Monsoon showers.
According to Skymet Weather, these showers can be attributed to a trough that has been running along the West Coast and a wind confluence zone formed over Maharashtra.
Later in the night, these rains might take a break but will again return tomorrow. For the next two to three days, several spells of rain and thundershowers will continue for Mumbai. Thereafter, as the Monsoon 2018 nears, rains would pick up pace. We can expect some heavy showers over Mumbai during that time which would mark the onset of Mumbai Monsoon.
