Mumbai Rains Cause havoc

Nature’s fury is being witnessed all over Mumbai and the Mumbaikars are facing the brunt of the same. Since yesterday, Mumbai has received the heaviest rain in a decade. The overnight torrential rains have brought life and all modes of transport to a standstill. Keeping the current scenario in mind, the government has already declared July 2 as a public holiday.

However, the Mumbai airport has not been shut. Though, the main runway is closed for operation due to skidding of a flight. SpiceJet flight overshot its mark while landing amid heavy rainfall at around 11.45 pm yesterday. Alternate Runway is in operation and some flights have been diverted to Goa. Till now around 52 flights have been diverted with almost 54 being cancelled.

Domestic airlines have posted messages on social media warning people of cancellation and delays. Air Vistara has confirmed the cancellation of ten flights in and out of Mumbai, including flights to Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai.

The Western Express Highway which leads to the airport was flooded after continuous rain in Mumbai, making it extremely difficult for people running to catch their flights to reach the airport on time.

Mumbai Railway Traffic Update

Meanwhile, rail services have also been affected by the rain. Several suburban and long-distance trains were cancelled after tracks were flooded. Both Central Railway and Western Railway tweeted details of cancelled and rescheduled services.
