Since Southwest Monsoon made an onset over the city of Mumbai on June 9, the city has recorded a few heavy spells of rains. In fact, the notorious Mumbai rains have also been making an appearance in between.
One of the instances of the Godzilla rains in Mumbai occurred just about a day ago when the Santa Cruz observatory saw a whopping 231 mm of rainfall. Thereafter, heavy rains to the tune of 53 mm were witnessed in the last 24 hours.

The average monthly rainfall amount for the city of Mumbai stands at 493.1 mm of rains. However, the city has already surpassed that amount and stands at 738.6 mm at present. In fact, chances are that the city may surpass the 1000 mm mark as well this year for June.
For the city of Mumbai, rainfall variability is quite high in the month of June. The onset date also varies and acts as a deciding factor for the likely rainfall in June.
The year 2014 had a delayed onset of Monsoon for Mumbai and the city had seen a mere 87.3 mm of rains. However, 2015 saw hefty Monsoon rainfall in June which amounted to 1106.7 mm. in 2013 as well, Mumbai had seen 1029.8 mm of rainfall.
Now, as per weathermen at Skymet, rains will continue through the week and the city may be able to see more than 1000 mm again.
