Mumbai records 35 mm rain in three hours
Mumbai rains have become intense with the city receiving very heavy rains during the last 24 hours. The Santa Cruz observatory received a whopping 104 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours.
The city has recorded three digit rains on the second consecutive day. A day before, over 142 mm of rain was witnessed over the maximum city.
Now, during the next 24 hours, the city is expected to witness more moderate to heavy rains making residents crave for some sunshine and dry weather.
At present, the city is witnessing massive traffic jams. To top it all, just about a stretch between Dadar and Sena Bhawan have 200 potholes, which means causing more inconvenience to the residents of the city.
While rains have stopped over the city for a while, these showers are expected to pick up once again after a few hours as could generation us likely to take place.
Heavy downpours continue over Mumbai, several areas waterlogged
Mumbai has been receiving good rains for quite some time now. So much so that the maximum city has recorded a few good spells of rain during the last few days. These Monsoon showers have been heavy in intensity and widespread in nature.
In a span of 21 hours, the Santa Cruz observatory has recorded a good 68 mm of rain. During the last 2 hours, the maximum city has been receiving heavy to very heavy rains. In fact, due to these rains, several areas have been waterlogged and traffic snarls are expected as office commuters begin their long journey.
Local trains could also suffer a setback as several rail tracks are also waterlogged. The Western line is running about 15 to 20 minutes late. Not only this, there is likely to be some delay in flights as well due to heavy downpours in the city.
As per reports, several schools in Mumbai have declared a holiday today due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai. These Monsoon showers are expected to continue for another few hours.
The famous three-digit Monsoon rains have made a comeback over Mumbai once again. After recording scattered showers earlier this week, Monsoon has once again become active over the region.
In span of 21 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, the maximum city has recorded 138 mm of rain.
All thanks to the formation of the new weather system in west-central Bay of Bengal that has infused fresh Monsoon surge over the Coastal Maharashtra. The system is presently prevailing over west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining the coastal areas of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh.
According to Skymet Weather, the system is moving westwards at fast pace and likely to move closer to the Konkan and Goa region soon.
With the system retaining its strength, moderate to heavy showers will continue over Mumbai during the next 24 to 48 hours, predict weathermen. However, these rains will be intermittent in nature.
So far, the city has recorded 360.5 mm of rain as compared to its monthly average rainfall of 312.3 mm. Now with more rains in offing, the rain surplus of the city is likely to go increase even further.
For the last three consecutive years, Mumbai had failed to achieve its monthly mean.
