Mumbai Rains in March break records, citizens rejoice

Mumbai Rains Rain in Mumbai may have taken Mumbaikars by surprise on Friday but it was a reason to take out colorful umbrellas even if for a little while. Several parts of Mumbai and Maharashtra witnessed unseasonal rain during last 24 hours which not only brought a marginal drop in temperature but shattered few rainfall records as well.

Mumbai has been reeling under intense heat for last few days as February had gone completely dry in the city of dreams with maximum temperature settling in mid 30s. However, light to moderate rainfall received in parts of Mumbai including Borivali, Vasai, and Churchgate brought some respite from the discomforting weather.

While Mumbai received 10 mm of rainfall in just 24 hours which is 50 times more than the monthly rainfall of 0.2 mm, Pune received 3 mm of rainfall. Kolhapur received 4 mm of rain on Friday. March is the least rainy month for Mumbai but due to the presence of confluence zone over North Maharashtra upto South Chhattisgarh. Unseasonal showers brought a welcome drop in temperature and scorching summer heat.

Part of the city was covered in cloudy sky along with rain and thunderstorm for the entire day. The joy of Mumbai residents could be seen on micro blogging site Twitter where Mumbaikars shared their joy with hashtag #MumbaiRains.

Cloudy sky with possibility of light rain and thundershowers is likely in Mumbai and adjoining areas till today evening. However, the pleasant weather that marked the beginning of March may fade away from tomorrow onwards.
