Mumbai rains have begun its quota of today with the suburbs receiving some good rains accompanied with some thunder and lightning as well. These rains are in view of Cyclone Vayu which is currently abeam Mumbai, maintaining safe distance from the coast.
Rainfall in Mumbai is expected to continue today with the intensity of showers increasing tomorrow.

Mumbai rains have revived, courtesy to Cyclone Vayu in East-Central Arabian Sea. Even though the system was far away, but its peripherals managed to give heavy rains in Mumbai last night. Santa Cruz Observatory saw 40 mm of rains in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, while Colaba recorded 25 mm.
Now, rain in Mumbai are all set to intensify even further. Cyclone Vayu, at present, is passing parallel to Karwar and Goa coast. It is moving at a good speed of about 15 kmph and would be soon abeam Mumbai by today afternoon.
Not only this, the system is getting more powerful with every passing moment. Weathermen have already reiterated that Cyclone Vayu is likely to intensify into severe cyclonic storm by today evening.
As a result, Mumbai rains would also pick up pace. At present, the city is witnessing partly cloudy sky, becoming cloudy during the latter part of the day. Rains would also make appearance by evening, accompanied with strong winds. Mumbai is likely to see some intense rains, but rains would indeed cover the entire city.
On and off rains of varying intensity in Mumbai would continue for the next 2-3 days under the influence of Cyclone Vayu. While day would be warm and humid, evening and nights would be fairly pleasant.
With this, Mumbai Monsoon is round the corner as we expect to make onset during the next few days.

The city of Mumbai saw light rains yesterday accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning. However, Mumbai was yet to see a good spell of Pre Monsoon rains, which would help in dropping the temperatures and bringing in some relief from the ongoing weather.
The typical Pre Monsoon rains in Mumbai, which had been much awaited for quite a while now, are finally here. Rain in Mumbai began during the evening hours and it was the suburbs which started to see rainfall activity first wherein Kharghar, Vashi, Sanpada began observing thunderstorm activities.
Rain belt then covered more areas and almost the entire city started to see Mumbai rains making an appearance. This is the first good Pre Monsoon rainy spell which has made an appearance and is expected to continue for a couple of more days now.
These rains have occurred in view of the the deep depression over east-central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea which is all set to intensify into Cyclone Vayu by the morning of June 11. The system is currently, 650 km south-southwest of Mumbai and 850 km south-southeast of Veraval. Moreover, the city is likely to see Pre Monsoon rains tomorrow, i.e. on June 11 and June 12, with some good showers likely in a few areas.
