Mumbai rains have been kind enough for the residents, giving rainfall of varied intensity each day. While on some days rains have been intense, on the other, Mumbai rains remained light in intensity.
This year, Southwest Monsoon made a delayed onset over Mumbai. While the city begins to receive Monsoon rains on June 10 usually, this time, Monsoon reached Mumbai only on June 20. Pre-Monsoon showers also did not make their presence marked.
Before June 20 it seemed impossible for the city to even reach its monthly average rains. However, rains picked up pace as soon as Southwest Monsoon made an onset over Mumbai. So much so that the city recorded its first three digit rain of the season on the very same day.
Mumbai rains performed well by the end of June. The city recorded 695.4 mm in the entire month against its monthly average of 523.1 mm. Rains in July have also been good. During the last 24 hours, Mumbai recorded 46.1 mm of rain taking the rainfall figures in July in excess of 300 mm.
With this spell of rain, Mumbai has received more than 1000 mm rain from June 1 till now. July looks promising and the city is expected to receive good showers during the entire month. However, during the next 24 hours, rains will be light to moderate in intensity.
