The residents of Mumbai have only been receiving good news for quite some time now. So much so that the city has recorded a few heavy showers in the form of three digit rains as well. Only a day before, the Santa Cruz observatory in Mumbai received a whopping 142.6 mm of rain.
The last 24 hours were no different and good showers were recorded over the region. However, the city did not receive three digit rains.
Nevertheless, Monsoon rains have been heavy over the city. During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday to 5:30 am on Thursday, Santa Cruz observatory received a good 68 mm of rainfall. At present also, Mumbai is witnessing good rain and thundershowers and we expect this spell to continue for some more time.
In wake of these showers, some areas are reportedly to be submerged in water.
Now, during the next 24 hours, the city is expected to receive some more rains as well. While these showers are expected to be intermittent in nature, the possibility of heavy spells of rain over the region cannot be ruled out.
These good Monsoon showers can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which was over Saurashtra and the Gujarat region.
Mumbai has already surpassed its monthly mean and so far, the city has witnessed 570 mm of rainfall against its monthly average of 312.3 mm which happens to be over 200 mm rain more than usual. With over a week left in the month of September, the maximum city is surely expected to surpass the 600 mm rainfall mark.
