Mumbai rains break July records, expect showers today

July 27, 2023 12:47 PM |

The city of Mumbai has been seeing non-stop rains in the last 48 hours. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Santacruz recorded 145 mm of rain while Colaba saw even heavier showers at 223 mm.

Today, rains are expected to continue and may be heavy as well but will be lesser than yesterday. Tomorrow rainfall activity is expected to further reduce which means that rains will gradually see a reduction over Mumbai. A big relief is expected around July 29.

Mumbai has had a super monsoon year so far with the city surpassing July rains way before the month's end. Moreover, until today, Mumbai has recorded 1578 mm of rain against the normal average of 919.9 mm. In fact, Mumbai has also beaten the earlier record of 1502.6 mm which was observed in the year 2020. In July, Mumbai saw 5 occasions of three-digit rains out of which one of them was above 200 mm.

Talking about both June and July, Mumbai has seen 2127.1 mm of rains which is quite a bit. In June, the city had seen 549.1 mm of rains which was more than the monthly mean. Moreover, annual rains are at 2502 mm, and Mumbai has already seen 2127.1 mm in just June and July. It seems like the city will far exceed the annual as well as the seasonal average well before the end of the season.
